Take A Step Back In Time Aboard the Flagship of WHALE Center’s Waves of Change, The Florida Keys & The Conch Republic!

aboard the Conch Republic’s Flagship WOLF for this sail course designed by First Sea Lord ADM FinbarGittelman, with help from Maritime Historians, Authors, and Salty Seafarers.

Our goal is to pique the interest of Youth, Adults, and Seniors, with the hope they will want to continue learning more about the wonderful world of the ancient art of sail.

The course provides an overview of the history of sail, importance of teamwork in traditional sailing, basic safety protocols and equipment, and how sailing harnesses the forces of nature.

Participants get a glimpse into the rich and colorful Maritime Heritage of Florida, Bahamas, and Caribbean; and learn about conservation efforts in Ocean, Coastal Habitat, and Marine Environment Protection.

Everyone receives course materials with suggested reading list, and WOLF t-shirt and cap. Box lunches and beverages included. Course at Sea participants will have the chance to join the Conch Republic Navy and the Waves of Change Navy, and receive a certificate, suitable for framing.

The Intro to the Ancient Art of Sail & Maritime Heritage program is a prerequisite for our Young Seafarers Academy Traditional Sail Seamanship and Youth Leadership Beginner Course.

This program is a collaboration coordinated with the Conch Republic Navy, Key West Maritime Historical Society, PeaceVision, Waves of Change, and other related maritime organizations.
